We Play – egg and spoon races

I was going to feature something different this week (that is, nothing to do with my son’s preschool), but it was hard to pass over an activity that was replayed so often this week – the egg and spoon race.  This was an event at my son’s Sports Day last week.  It was his favourite event and he has been having egg and spoon races with his brother (and himself) ever since.

As you can see there was no real egg involved, only a ball.  My younger son loves this activity too, but I substituted the ball for a block to make it easier for him.

The other events at the Sports Day were running, bouncing on the space hoppers, filling the bucket with water, tunnel ball, sack races and a short obstacle course.  We have been having a lot of hopping and running races in the house lately, as well as the egg and spoon event.

I loved my space hopper when I was a kid! Glad to know kids still love them.

One of the reason I an't wait to have a backyard is Princess' love of onstacle courses. Not really room to do them inside. :(

Children's sports days are so much fun! We've had lots of sack races in the backyard - using the enviro-bags.

I miss the sports days. I can't go to them cause Boo loses his mind if he sees me at school. And high school sports days... well lets just say parents are not encouraged to turn up.

Le sigh.

Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your kids!

Egg and spoon races and tunnel ball were my favourite events from sports days when I was at school.

How fun for your boys to have these races at home. Memory making at its best.

I am fascinated by some of the links you have included about what you're exploring online. I am off to check them out. Thank you for sharing these.

These are all timeless games. All my Aunts and Uncles played these games at my Grandparents years ago at a family Easter celebration. As a child sitting in the grass with all my cousins watching all the adults engage in these games is one of my favorite childhood memories. Thanks for the post.

Now for the real eggs? We had great fun at a friends house at Christmas time having (real!) egg and spoon races and then an egg throw and catch game - adults and kids (1-9 years of age)! It was tooooo much fun!
